2 people rescued, dog killed in Grant Park house fire, officials say

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Two people were rescued from a house fire that left a dog dead and up to 10 people displaced in Atlanta’s Grant Park neighborhood late Friday afternoon.

Greg Gray, assistant chief with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, said crews responded to a burning home where people were possibly trapped inside on the 300 block of Hill Street, just off Memorial Drive, several blocks east of downtown Atlanta.

Atlanta police said emergency responders rescued two people from the burning house.

One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, and a police officer was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

A dog was killed in the fire, according to police.

Gray said eight to 10 people staying at the house have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
