Body of man who went overboard Saturday on Lake Lanier has been recovered

ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) - The body of 29-year-old Kaiyan Ding of Atlanta was recovered from Lake Lanier Monday afternoon, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

His body was found by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office’s dive team, Hall County Fire and a private diner.

Ding went overboard at Lake Lanier on Saturday around 2 p.m. near the Holiday Marina.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Law Enforcement Game Wardens arrived on the scene soon after and both agencies began searching for Ding with sonar in water ranging from 60 to 100 feet, an agency spokesperson said.

Crews were back out on the water Sunday morning and will continue the search for Ding until all options have been exhausted.

Henry Condit was one of many people enjoying Lake Lanier on Sunday. There was a lot more traffic because of the holiday weekend.

“Just relaxing for father’s day that’s all I wanted to do today was come and relax by the lake.”

“It’s not surprising,” he said.

The high boat traffic also caused issues for rescue crews.

“No, I would never go swimming,” said Condit.

Visitors hope there aren’t any more tragedies on the water.

“They say there’s a lot of undercurrents in this lake and so you fall in you don’t know where the currents are get swept down that’s the end of it,” Condit said.

Troup County Sheriff’s Office officials confirmed to CBS46 News on Sunday a 49-year-old woman died after she drowned at West Point Lake on June 11.
