Road blocked, power outage reported after tree falls during Chamblee storm
CHAMBLEE, Ga. (CBS46) - Heavy rain and high wind knocked down a large tree in Chamblee on Thursday. The tree fell onto a power line and blew out a transformer, knocking out power in the area.
Helen Orowski witnessed the large tree fall right before her eyes on Laventure Drive.
“I was just standing at the door and the thunder had stopped and it was raining. Then all a sudden I heard a screech, screech, screech, boom and then like a big pop, pop, pop. And the transformer popped over there and the telephone pole cracked,” Orowski said.
To make matters worse, Orowski said the tree fell on top of the neighbor’s car while she was sitting in the vehicle. The scariest thing she’s ever seen.
“My neighbor was in a little red car behind it and she’s at Northside Hospital. She got a concussion. She was in her car,” Orowski said. “I feel terrible about that because I love my neighbors. I love my neighborhood. I’ve been here for years.”
Residents in the community told us the power was restored to the area late Thursday evening.
