Buckhead Saloon destroyed by ‘tremendous amount of fire’ Monday morning
Road closures are in effect
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Atlanta Fire Department responded to a large fire at the Buckhead Saloon in the 3200 block of Roswell Road NE Monday morning.
The Atlanta Fire Department says that it appears the fire started in the rear of the building. During a press conference, it was described as a ‘tremendous amount of fire.’ No injuries have been reported at this time.
Bystanders tell Atlanta News First they are sad to see the popular business go.
Eric Williams saw it happen on his way to work.
“All of a sudden, I heard something say boom,” Williams explained.
The saloon, which is located right next door to a fire station, was crawling with firefighters shortly after the fire broke out.
“Our firefighters called the fire in, they were on the second floor of the fire station,” said an Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesperson.
Atlanta Fire Rescue says the fire started in the back of the building.
“We saw the smoke for I don’t know how far. I know there was smoke from miles away,” said Diego Robledo, who works nearby.
Robledo says he arrived to work next door just minutes after the fire broke out. He says he considers himself lucky.
“It was an act of God because I always park in between Buckhead and Piece of Cake,” Robledo said.
Tuesday morning, crews were still at the scene dumping water on any remaining hot spots to make sure nothing reignites, which has been the biggest issue for firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
