ORIGINAL STORY: A MARTA Police sergeant, in uniform and on duty, was injured after shooting a person near the Five Points MARTA Station Monday night.
The police sergeant reportedly got into an argument with an ex-boyfriend around 9 p.m. According to MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher, the man started to physically abuse the officer and that’s when she shot him twice.
Both were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“I just spoke with her, she’s in good spirits, she’s beat up pretty badly around the face, lots of bruising and cuts but they’re checking her out, CT scans, x-rays. I believe she’s going to make a full recovery,” said Chief Kreher.
The man is facing several criminal charges.
“So that’s another surprising aspect of this, that he would instigate a fight like this knowing one, she was a police officer and two, on duty, so, we’re a little concerned about that and that will be part of our investigation,” Kreher said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
