Fire at Peachtree Road Target ‘intentionally set,’ according to investigators
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - UPDATE: Atlanta Fire investigators believe the fire was “intentionally set.” It does not appear to be connected to the fire at the Target on Piedmont Road set in January.
The fire department arrived shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday night and quickly extinguished the fire.
ORIGINAL STORY: Atlanta police and firefighters are investigating a fire at a Buckhead Target.
The fire was reported at the Target at 3535 Peachtree Road.
This is the latest in a string of fires at Atlanta-area big box stores. The Target at 2539 Piedmont Road in Buckhead was the scene of arson in January. They just reopened a few days ago.
“Authorities need to figure out what’s going on and why these things are happening,” said Dapo, a man who goes to the Peachtree Road Target every day for breakfast.
Two Walmarts, one on Howell Mill Road in Midtown and another on MLK Jr. Drive in Vine City, were also deliberately set on fire recently. The Walmart in Vine City will reopen as a neighborhood market and the Howell Mill location is permanently closed.
“Arrests should’ve happened if it’s something that’s repeating itself over and over again. I’m wondering why that hasn’t happened myself,” said Dapo.
No injuries were reported but Target shoppers say this needs to stop before someone is.
“I just hope it stops. I mean, it’s a great area to live, it’s a good store, it’s a great location,” said Dan Sullivan, who lives in Buckhead.
The Peachtree Road Target store opened at its usual time on Wednesday.
