ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - DeKalb County police said they found a teenager shot to death in a wooded area Thursday morning.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of North Hairston Road in the Stone Mountain area about a person shot around 9:27 a.m., according to a spokesperson with the DeKalb County Police Department.

They said they found “a deceased male in his late teens in the woodline,” but have not identified him yet.

Atlanta News First’s chopper flew over the scene as investigators searched the woods next to the Reserve at Hairston Lake apartment complex.

“If people would just put the guns down, it’d make this world a better world to live in,” neighbor Monica McNeal said. “Kids are dying over senseless stuff.”

Police haven’t said if they’ve identified a suspect or have anyone in custody.

“It’s very scary. It makes you not want to go out and do anything. It’s insane that we can’t walk out and do, you know, daily things today with all this shooting going on,” McNeal said.
