PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (Gray News) - The baby twins of celebrity groundhog Punxsutawney Phil have received their names, which are appropriately weather-themed.

The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club announced the babies’ names on Mother’s Day, a treat for Phil’s wife, Phyllis. The little girl will be called Sunny, and the little boy will be called Shadow.

After the babies were born in March, the club invited all Punxsutawney residents and visitors to submit names for the new arrivals. The names were chosen after a discussion with Phil in “Groundhogese.”

The family lives in a manmade zoo that is connected with the Punxsutawney Memorial Library, Barclay Square and the Pennsylvania town’s park.

Phil is known for predicting the weather every Feb. 2, or Groundhog Day. If he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter, and if he doesn’t, there will be an early spring.

This year, Phil predicted there would be an early spring at the 138th celebration of Groundhog Day at Gobbler’s Knob.
