ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Atlanta police said they’re searching for the driver in a deadly hit-and-run that happened on the Downtown Connector late Sunday night.

Police said they responded to a car accident on I-85 NB near 17th Street NW around 11:50 p.m.

Officers reportedly found the driver of a Kia Optima in critical condition. The driver was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where they died from their injuries.

Police said investigators determined that a Chevrolet Suburban traveling at the I-75/85 northbound split cut across the gore and entered I-85 NB. The Suburban then struck the Optima, which was parked on the right shoulder, and left the scene.

The investigation into the fatal hit-and-run is ongoing.

The victim has not yet been identified.
