Week Ahead in Washington: August 30
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - This week, the House of Representatives is set to return from its August recess, ahead of what is expected to be a busy legislative period before the midterm elections.
Members are scheduled to return Monday and have roughly four weeks to debate and pass a continuing resolution that would fund the federal government before the upcoming Sept. 30 deadline.
GOP members will also likely try to push a reconciliation package that would continue to fund the war in Iran and other party priorities.
Also set for Monday in Sterling Heights Michigan, a major super PAC that supports President Donald Trump, MAGA Inc., will host a campaign event with Vice President JD Vance. The event aims to shore up support for Republicans in the battleground state.
On Tuesday, Massachusetts voters will head to the polls for a primary election that will determine which candidates move on to the November midterms.
The legal battle over President Trump’s efforts to restrict mail-in voting is also set to continue on Sept. 3, with a federal court hearing scheduled in Boston.
And in another case on Thursday, a woman accused of vandalizing the World War II Memorial in Washington is scheduled to be arraigned.
