First Alert Weather Day: More Extreme Heat for Sunday
Expect heat indices to exceed 105 degrees Sunday afternoon.
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Excessive heat continues across north Georgia and metro Atlanta through Sunday, but there is relief to start next week.
First Alert Weather Day Sunday
The Heat: High temperatures will reach the mid to upper 90s, but the combination of heat and humidity will create heat indices as high as 107 degrees. A heat advisory is in effect until Sunday 8 p.m. for most of north Georgia.
Storms Possible: Scattered strong thunderstorms may develop again Sunday afternoon and evening, primarily across north and northeast Georgia. The main threat will be damaging wind gusts. While storms could provide brief relief from the heat, they may also impact game conditions, especially in the second half.
Relief Coming Early Next Week
The good news: cooler and drier weather arrives early next week as the frontal system pushes through. Monday will see temperatures drop to the mid to upper 80s as a backdoor front slides into the area. Isolated showers are possible Monday before drier weather returns by mid-week.
