CBS46 personalities greeted students as they showed up for a surprise in the gym at West Clayton Elementary School -- a cinch-sack full of books for each student.
Since 2018, CBS has distributed more than 55,000 books to kids across Metro Atlanta. And with some kids falling behind in literacy, because of the pandemic, the initiative is more critical now than ever before.
Right now, only 34% of Georgia’s third graders are reading proficiently by the end of the school year. This means 2 out of every 3 third graders cannot read proficiently in Georgia.
