19-year-old man wanted in connection to deadly Gwinnett Co. shooting

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Gwinnett County police are searching for a 19-year-old man they say fatally shot another man and escaped from police during a standoff in Grayson on Sunday.

Gwinnett County police say the homicide happened on Roseberry Lane following a domestic incident between two groups of people. The Gwinnett County Police Department said officers responded to a home on Roseberry Lane after reports of a shooting.

According to police, the investigation found the victim, identified as 38-year-old Woodstock man Rodrell Dobson, met with 19-year-old Christian Houston to pick up one of his family members at the home. Police say Houston met Dobson and shot him in the driveway and then ran into the home.

Arrest warrants were secured for Houston, who now faces felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, police say.

Around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities sent a press release that stated the Gwinnett County Police Department SWAT Team was activated and assessing the situation. A couple of hours later, Investigator Christian D’Allaird told Atlanta News First, “The suspect was not located inside the residence. The investigation is still active, and detectives are following leads.”

Atlanta News First crews spoke with neighbors in the area who said they heard the shots.

“As soon as I heard gunshots, I came running up here just to make sure everything was alright,” said Chaz Suddreth, “but a lady was in the street screaming, ‘They killed my husband! They killed my husband!’ So I kept going, and literally, the man was laid out in front of the front door on the sidewalk pretty much gone already.”

“His sister, his niece and another lady, and his wife were out here literally trying to help him, and the people right here next door came out, and she is a nurse. She started CPR,” said Suddreth.” I ran into the house to get towels to try to stop the bleeding, but it was a little too late.”

Suddreth said he lives four doors down from the home where the shots were fired.

“This is the first time I’ve ever seen or heard of any incident like this in this neighborhood. It’s shocking. It really is,” Suddreth said. “I just pray for the family. The family was really devastated. Seeing them and interacting with them kind of made me get a new outlook on life.”

Investigators said there’s no information on the relationship between the victim and the suspect. Earlier in the day, they stated this was an isolated incident and didn’t believe the community was in danger.

Suddreth said a family member recalled seeing someone running through the woods. He said it was unclear if it was before or after hearing the shots.
