ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The small Georgia church where former president Jimmy Carter taught Sunday school just named its first-ever female pastor.

Reverend Ashley Guthas will take over sermons at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains starting next month. She most recently served as an associate minister at Northside Drive Baptist Church in Atlanta.

Jimmy Carter gave his last Sunday school lesson at Maranatha back in 2019.
