New Fulton County Housing Authority board member speaks on plan to move forward

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - There’s new leadership at the Fulton County Housing Authority.

The county commissioners appointed four new board members after allegations of misuse funds and management.

Felicia A. Moore is one of the new appointees.

“I think that when you’re dealing housing, you’re dealing with life and death,” said Moore.

Moore served on the Atlanta City Council for more than 20 years, four of those as president.

She recently ran for Atlanta Mayor against Mayor Andre Dickens.

Moore currently works as an associate broker at Exit Reality in West Midtown.

She had this to say about taking on the new role, “All of the allegations are serious I believe all the new board need to be brought up to speed - number one and then I believe we need to prioritize what needs to be done because there is all long list of deficiencies.”

The board appointed three other appointees:

• Stephen Davis, who has worked at the Atlanta Apartment Association and Georgia Apartment Association for the last four years.
• Holly M. York, who serves at the Vice President of Development at MUST Ministries in Marietta and spent time as Executive Director for North Fulton Community Charities.
• Lauren Waites, who is a public policy consultant and community advocate. Waites has worked with several social justice and anti-poverty organizations.

County commissioners voted to remove the remaining two board members, Antavius Weems and Dr. Lamar White, at Monday’s special called meeting.

The Fulton County Housing Authority has been under fire for allegations of misuse of funds and management.

HUD has threatened sections and financial penalties for what they described as multiple failures and violations including late payments for section 8 renters.

The agency had given the Housing Authority a deadline of July 31 to show improvement.

County leaders say two of the immediate corrections suggested by HUD were to appoint a new board and hire a third-party consultant to run operations.

Moore says they’re ready to get to work, “Were all committed to making sure we get this agency back on track my goal is to get back on track and make it one of the premier agencies in Georgia.”

The board is expected to meet for the first time Wednesday.

Former chairman Antavius Weems says he’s filed a lawsuit challenging the legality of his removal. A spokesperson for Weems says he wants to finish out his term that would have been up in September.
