Officers, driver injured after car slams into patrol vehicle, Marietta police say
MARIETTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Two officers and a driver were injured after the driver’s car slammed into the officers’ patrol vehicle Friday night, according to Marietta police.
Police said the crash happened at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Roswell Street around 10:15 p.m., which is near the iconic KFC Big Chicken. The two officers were reportedly responding to a “normal alarm call” when a 60-year-old driver “violently” rear-ended the patrol car with her Mustang at a red light.
The Mustang spun out of control and hit the back of a nearby Toyota Prius, police said. The driver was ejected from her car, and the two officers had to be pried from the wreckage of their Ford Explorer.
The three were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries. The officers have been released, but the woman remains in the hospital, where she is expected to recover, police said.
Police said they plan to file charges against the driver. They ask anyone with information about the crash to call Investigator J. Henderson at 770-794-5384.
