ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Union City fast food worker says she was assaulted on the job.

Andrea Alexander, 17, says a man threw bleach in her face while she was working the drive-thru at the Burger King off Jonesboro Road in Union City.

“At first, I thought it was water,” she said. “Because it was really cold my eyes and my nose immediately started burning.”

She said it happened Tuesday night.

Alexander said the man was driving a red pick-up but couldn’t recall much else.

“When I looked back up, he threw a cup of bleach in my face. Then I closed my eyes and heard him driving off,” she said.

Alexander said there wasn’t an issue with the man’s order or a hostile exchange prior to the attack.

“I don’t know, it’s just really hard emotionally. The first night, it was hard for me to sleep. I haven’t really got any sleep just because every time I close my eyes, I see somebody throwing bleach in my face,” Alexander said.

Her mother, La Toya Alexander, said she is concerned about the way the restaurant handled the situation.

“They didn’t call the police. They didn’t do any first aid whatever their procedure is when some type of emergency like that happens nothing like was followed,” she said.

Andrea said she has no plans of returning to work but is warning other fast-food workers to stay vigilant.

“I hope that if this has happened to anyone else that they reach out. If they have information reach out so I can get justice,” she said.

Union City Police are investigating. Authorities say they working to obtain surveillance video.
