1 arrested after man shot to death in downtown Alpharetta
ALPHARETTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A 21-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection to a deadly shooting that happened in downtown Alpharetta Wednesday night.
Alpharetta police say officers responded to a shooting call Wednesday night around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Milton Avenue and Academy Street and found one man who had been shot. Several shell cases were found at the scene.
Investigators say the victim was in the road and was shot by a person on a motorcycle. They say the shooting stemmed from an argument.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he later died. He has been identified as 46-year-old Justin Mourning, of Alpharetta, according to Alpharetta PD.
Jaden Lewis was charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection to the shooting.
People who live in Alpharetta were left in disbelief by the crime.
“It makes me want to cry honestly. It’s kind of scary,” said Sasha Bazan.
Police had released several images of who they described as a “person of interest” in the case. The person is on a black sports-style motorcycle and wearing a black jacket with patches on the left sleeve and left side of their chest, black pants and black Nike shoes with a white swoosh.
“I would never second-guess walking to my car by myself or anything like that. If I was meeting up with friends that time of night, not here. I mean, yeah that’s very shocking,” said Danielle Hunt, who was out buying coffee the morning after the deadly shooting.
Investigators say this is now being considered a homicide investigation.
