Major crash shuts down I-75 for several hours during morning rush near Acworth

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A major shut down I-75 for several hours Thursday morning near Acworth in Cobb County, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

The interstate was shut down at 6:41 a.m., and the left lane was reopened by 8:30 a.m.

Officials say an SUV was following a pickup truck too closely while driving in the left lane. To avoid a crash, the SUV switched into the middle lane and hit the side of a tractor-trailer’s cab.

The tractor-trailer lost control and spun out, sideswiping the pickup truck before crashing into a ditch, they said.

The tractor-trailer blocked the left and emergency lanes, causing major delays, authorities said.

Officials say no one was injured, but all three vehicles had damage.

The driver of the SUV was cited for following too closely and failing to maintain their lane, officials say.
