Whataburger employee accused of using customer’s card to pay probation fines

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Police in Senoia are asking for the public’s help in locating a woman wanted for using stolen debit card information to pay her probation fines.

Senoia police say 25-year-old Aleefah Sumpter of Newnan is wanted for felony identity theft and felony financial transaction card fraud.

On Jan. 31, Sumpter, while working at the Whataburger in Newnan, allegedly stole debit card information from a customer in the drive-thru to pay her probation fines and fees with the Coweta County State Court Probation Office (CCSCPO).

Police say Sumpter was on probation for a previous possession of marijuana charge.

The customer noticed a $400 payment to CCSCPO on his account and told the probation office about the unauthorized transaction. The customer, who lives in Senoia, also alerted the Senoia Police Department.

Both CCSCPO and Senoia police worked together to identify Sumpter as the suspect. Police said the customer also picked her out of a photo line-up as the worker who took his card payment and disappeared for a couple of minutes.

Police say they and Sumpter’s probation officer obtained warrants for her arrest and notified her of them, to which she agreed to turn herself in on Friday, Feb. 21. However, she failed to turn herself in and stopped answering calls from investigators.

Family members interviewed by police said that she went to Florida, a trip that was supposedly planned before the charges were filed against her.
