ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - In the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination last week, White House border czar Tom Homan will not appear Monday night at a Georgia Faith and Freedom Coalition event.

The conservative Georgia organization said Homan “has been recalled to D.C.” as a result of “the tragic events of the week.”

Homan was set to headline the group’s annual “Victory Dinner” event. Still set to appear are former Georgia U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler; Lt. Gov. Burt Jones; Attorney General Chris Carr; U.S. Reps. Buddy Carter, Mike Collins and Barry Loudermilk; and others.

Jones and Carr are locked in a battle for the GOP nomination for governor, while Carter and Collins are both seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, in hopes of unseating incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff in the 2026 midterms.

In light of Kirk’s killing last week, security at the event was tight. Organizers say they worked with both local and federal law enforcement partners to ensure all attendees and speakers were safe from threats.

“They’ve done a security assessment and we’re following their recommendations,” said Mack Parnell, executive director of the Georgia Faith and Freedom Coalition. “We don’t expect any issues but we’re always going to prepare for things.”

Parnell said in place of Homan as a keynote speaker, the event would instead feature several employees from Turning Point USA - the organization Kirk co-founded - and a moment of silence for Kirk towards the top of the night.

“There’s no way tonight could occur without that being a key component,” Parnell said of Kirk’s killing. “It just makes what we’re working for that much more important. It just puts it in that much more perspective.”

Almost two weeks ago, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security conducted its largest workplace operation in its history at a Hyundai battery manufacturing plant in southeast Georgia.

After the raid, Homan said more such single-site workplace raids would be coming.

On Monday, according to the Associated Press, FBI Director Kash Patel said DNA on a towel wrapped around a rifle found near where Kirk was assassinated matches that of Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused in the killing.

Authorities in Utah are preparing to file capital murder charges against Robinson as early as Tuesday. Patel said Robinson wrote in a note before the shooting that he had an opportunity to take out Kirk.

Also on Monday, Vice President JD Vance said he’ll honor Kirk by being a better husband and father.

Vance commented while hosting the radio program once hosted by Kirk. Vance talked about visiting with Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, and said she told him that her husband had never raised his voice to her and had never been cross or mean-spirited to her.
