Family identifies teenage girl killed in Piedmont Park double shooting
1 teenage girl killed, another injured in gunfire.
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A North Clayton High School student is dead after being shot and killed in Piedmont Park on Saturday, according to the girl’s family and the Fulton County Medical Examiner.
The teen’s family identified her as 16-year-old Tianah Robinson.
A 15-year-old girl was also injured in the shooting.
The shooting occurred near Lake Clara Meer, in the heart of the park around 9 p.m., soon after a festival there celebrating the city’s 404 Day, which drew thousands of people, wrapped up.

Upon arrival, officers located two girls with gunshot wounds. First responders declared Robinson dead on the scene. The other victim, who has not been identified, suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder. She was alert and breathing when taken to a Grady Memorial Hospital.
Police said that there was no connection between the shooting and the event.
In a Facebook post, 404 Day organizers said, “We want to reassure our community that every member of our team worked closely with our security and local authorities to keep our patrons safe. We are deeply saddened by what occurred and remain committed to supporting our community in any way we can.”
They said that their preliminary investigation determined the shooting happened at an unpermitted gathering at the opposite end of the park from where the 404 Day festival was taking place.
Police said the festival ended at 7:45 p.m., however, a flyer from the permitted 404 Day event references festivities ending at 9 p.m.
A witness told Atlanta News First that there was also a “teen takeover” event in the park Saturday night.
“Teenagers walked in with backpacks and ski masks,” said Deric Bebee.
Soon enough, shots rang out.
“They don’t know who let them shots off,” he said.
Atlanta has been plagued from a rash of shootings as of late, including violence connected to “teen takeovers” in several metro areas.
Police Lt. Christopher Butler told Atlanta News First they are still investigating to find out the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
“We’ve heard things about a gathering as far as the age groups,” Butler said. “We’re still trying to determine what exactly that was. We’re working all angles and gathering all footage that’s inside the park.”
Bebee said that it’s a shame that such a festive day for the city ended in tragedy.
“It really bothers me,” he said, “because we came out here to have a good time. We can’t even do that.”
Caterinna Bastsos, who was at Piedmont Park for 404 Day, said she heard separate gunshots between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m.
“Yeah shots fired and then just like woosh, like a sea of people running,” she said.
She said she hid behind a bush near the pond for around 20 minutes.
“There was actually like a family right next to me with probably like four or five little kids and when I say little kids I mean like under the age of 10. Like really, really little kids and we’re all just like crouched in these bushes next to [the] pond and the kids are like,’ Mom, what’s going on?’ and their parents are like ‘Just be quiet,’ you know and we kind of just stayed there until the footsteps, the sound of people running died down to what seemed reasonable,” she said.
Bastos told Atlanta News First that during 404 Day she “really didn’t notice much APD presence at all and I don’t know if it’s where I was at in the park, but particularly for such a big event I thought it was under-policed, I would say that.”
Tianah’s family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.
No arrests have been made.
