ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — After a dry Friday, shower chances will return to North Georgia tonight and continue through the weekend. But here’s the good news: there’s going to be plenty of dry time mixed in, so we won’t be stuck inside the whole time.

Tonight: Showers Move In After Sunset

Rain will begin moving into west-central Georgia after sunset tonight and spread east and north through the overnight hours and early Saturday morning. Most of the activity will stay south of I-20, with the heaviest rain expected in central Georgia. North Georgia will see lighter showers and a few rumbles of thunder, but nothing severe is expected.

Temperatures will drop to the upper 50s to low 60s tonight as the rain moves through.

Saturday: Scattered Morning Showers, Afternoon Dry Time

Saturday will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the morning. But here’s where it gets better—as the system moves away, conditions will improve throughout the afternoon. The southern part of the forecast area may see a few lingering storms, but most of North Georgia will dry out by Saturday afternoon.

Highs will reach the upper 70s and low 80s, with humidity increasing as the day goes on.

Sunday: Another Round, But Still Dry Windows

Another disturbance will move through late Saturday night into Sunday morning, bringing another chance of showers and thunderstorms. Again, the heaviest rain will stay south of I-20, with lighter activity expected across North Georgia.

Any Mother’s Day plans should still be in pretty good shape with spotty showers moving through quickly. The day will be warm with highs in the low 80s.

Monday: Final Rain Chance, Then Clearing

A cold front will sweep through Monday morning or early afternoon, bringing one last chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could produce gusty winds and frequent lightning, but severe weather is not expected. Rain should clear out by Monday afternoon.

The Rest of the Week: Beautiful!

After Monday clears out, high pressure moves in and sticks around. The rest of the week looks fantastic—dry skies, comfortable temperatures in the 70s and 80s, and plenty of sunshine. This is perfect weather for getting outside and enjoying North Georgia’s spring.

Bottom Line

Yes, rain is in the forecast for the next few days, but it’s not a washout. We’ll have dry time on Saturday afternoon and especially Sunday afternoon to get outside and enjoy Mother’s Day weekend. Just keep an umbrella handy for the showers that will pop up.
