I-285 weekend closure postponed due to weather concerns

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — I-285 will no longer close for construction this weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

The interstate was originally planned to shut down between S. Atlanta Road (exit 16) and Paces Ferry Road (Exit 18) from 7 p.m. on Friday, July 24, until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 27. The plans were scrapped due to expected weather, the department said.

The construction will be rescheduled for another weekend “in the near future,” according to the department.

The closures are related to the ongoing I-285 Westside Rebuild project. The $155 million endeavor is one of two projects along the I-285 Westside corridor designed to repair or replace concrete slabs and is slated for completion in 2028.

Wednesday through Saturday are First Alert Weather Days for widespread evening showers and storms, which may bring street flooding.
