ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A mosquito trap at another South Fulton park tested positive for West Nile virus, according to Mayor Carmalitha Gumbs.

Gumbs said a trap at Welcome All Park tested positive recently. Spraying started Wednesday within a quarter-mile radius of the trap.

This is the second trap at a South Fulton park to test positive this year. Traps at Old National Park tested positive earlier this month.

Welcome All Park will not close during treatment and testing.

South Fulton officials advised residents to take several precautions.

  • Remove standing water from flowerpots, buckets, toys, gutters, birdbaths and other containers where mosquitoes can breed.
  • Use an EPA-registered insect repellent when outdoors.
  • When practical, wear long sleeves and long pants, particularly during periods of increased mosquito activity.
  • Check window and door screens and repair openings that could allow mosquitoes inside
  • Regularly inspect your property for even small amounts of standing water.

“We are taking this notification seriously while also making sure residents receive timely and accurate information. Again, Welcome All Park remains open, and treatment and follow-up testing are being conducted as precautionary public health measures,” Gumbs said.
