74-year-old university professor dies after being hit by boat

BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KY3/Gray News) - A woman has died after she was hit by a boat while swimming in an Arkansas lake on Friday.
According to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the tragedy happened north of War Eagle Marina in the White River arm of Beaver Lake.
Officials said a 74-year-old woman, later identified as Alla Barry, professor of biology at Missouri State University, was swimming when a boat hit her. She died from her injuries.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) said that arm of the lake is relatively narrow and it typically experiences heavy boat traffic.
Missouri Southern State University released a statement on Facebook Saturday, saying Dr. Barry was a “beloved professor” who left a lasting impact on countless students whom she taught, mentored, and inspired.
“Her commitment to her students and meaningful contributions to the university will be part of her tremendous legacy,” the university said. “She will be greatly missed by her colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.”
The incident is still under investigation.
