3 games, 2 venues: Dream, Hawks, United pack downtown Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Downtown Atlanta was the center of the city’s sports world Saturday, with the Dream, Hawks and Atlanta United all playing home games at two nearby venues.
The Dream lost 67-62 to the Golden State Valkyries in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals at State Farm Arena in front of a sellout crowd, tying the best-of-seven series 2-2.

“We just weren’t hitting the shots, especially in the fourth quarter,” Dream fan Derril Thomas said.
Despite the loss, fans left believing Atlanta can still win its first WNBA championship.
“We only lost by a few points, and that was probably the worst they have ever played,” one fan said. “They will only get better from here. I still say Dream in six. ... We got it. Let’s go Dream!”
Another fan predicted the series will go the distance.
“I think it’s going to Game 7,” the fan said. “I don’t want to go to Game 7, but I think it’s going to Game 7, and we need to win Game 7.”
Hours later, State Farm Arena hosted the Hawks’ home opener against the Houston Rockets after a quick court changeover. Meanwhile, Atlanta United hosted the Chicago Fire at nearby Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The three games drew thousands of fans to both venues, creating a major logistical challenge for the city. Despite the crowds, downtown handled the influx well, with no major traffic problems or other significant issues reported.
