1 dead, 1 taken to hospital in Summerhill neighborhood shooting, APD says

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Atlanta police are investigating what led up to a late Monday morning shooting in the Summerhill neighborhood where one man was killed and another was taken to the hospital, according to the law enforcement agency.

Atlanta Police say around 10:00 a.m. officers responded to a shooting along Ormond St SW.

Police have not said who the man killed was.

The deceased victim’s brother identified him as Dajuan Jackson. Jackson was in his 40s, according to his family.

“I got a call from a family member saying my brother has been shot, I need to come down and check on it,” said Demetrius Lester.

He said he was devastated to learn he just lost his brother Dajuan Jackson to gun violence following a shooting in the Summerhill neighborhood.

“This is the area where my mom and dad are from,” said Lester.

Demetrius says his brother Dajuan returned to Atlanta from Clayton County.

“Christmas day we had a big dinner with my brother for the first time and he brought some Christmas gifts for my baby daughter,” said Lester.

He says his brother had a good heart and doesn’t know what prompted the shooting, but he says it’s not worth losing a life over.

“We are losing innocent lives around here and everything can be solved better than what the action shows and people end up getting killed out here in these streets,” said Lester.

As of right now, the deceased victim’s identity has not been confirmed by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Atlanta Police says the investigation continues.
