ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A major airline is offering employees an out.

Southwest Airlines is taking steps to reduce overstaffing. In an internal memo this week, the company offered employees “voluntary separation” or “extended time off.”

They are also slowing hiring.

A spokesperson says Southwest has experienced a constrained fleet in certain locations because of aircraft delivery delays. The spokesperson also says Southwest has never had a layoff.

They hope the new program will be a win-win.
