More than 2,400 gallons of gas stolen from Monroe County gas station, deputies say

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A 27-year-old man is accused of stealing more than 2,400 gallons of gas from a Monroe County gas station, according to Monroe County deputies.

Deputies said the theft was first reported Monday. Cameras captured a gray SUV and U-Haul stealing the gas from a station on Rumble Road on Jan. 19 and 20. On Jan. 23, a U-Haul matching the description was stopped. Two 250-gallon tanks were found inside the U-Haul; according to deputies, the tanks “were nearly empty of gasoline.”

Lionel Jones, 27, was charged with theft by taking, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, and criminal attempt to commit a felony.
