MetroFresh Serves Up Fresh Flavor and Community Spirit

ATLANTA, Ga. (ATL Live) - Mitchell Anderson, owner of Midtown Atlanta’s MetroFresh, joined ATL Live hosts Becky Sattero and Andrew Tyree to reflect on two decades of serving up fresh, seasonal dishes — and building a loyal community around them.

Founded in 2005 by Anderson, a former actor turned chef, MetroFresh has become a neighborhood staple known for its daily-changing menu of soups, salads, and specials. But it’s more than just a café — it’s a gathering place for artists, families, professionals, and longtime regulars who affectionately call themselves “MetroFreshuals.”

Anderson’s journey at MetroFresh includes partnerships with local nonprofits, schools, and Atlanta’s theatre scene. From supporting Midtown High School programs to feeding communities through DIG and World Central Kitchen, MetroFresh has always seen food as a way to connect and give back.

The restaurant will marked its 20th anniversary with a celebration featuring live music from Atlanta singer-songwriter Ben Deignan and a reunion of staff, regulars, and friends. Anderson also reflected on the quirky milestones along the way — like inspiring a cookbook (Food & Thought), hosting a Collective Soul album cover shoot, and sending out daily menu emails that became a ritual for thousands.

“Twenty years in, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve built together,” Anderson said. “Here’s to the next 20!”
