ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A large tree fell across a busy northeast Atlanta road on Wednesday morning, blocking traffic for hours.

Ponce de Leon Avenue was shut down near Moreland Avenue, close to Springdale Park Elementary School. The tree fell at around 5:30 a.m., and crews reopened the roadway around 10 a.m.

No one was hurt when the tree fell, but one man’s car was stuck underneath the branches.

The driver told Atlanta News First that the tree fell as he drove past. The trunk missed his car by inches, but the branches were on top of the car, trapping him inside. He was able to climb out of the driver’s side window and was not hurt.
