ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A former Bremen High School assistant coach who was arrested last month on allegations of sexually assaulting and grooming several minors is now facing more than two dozen child molestation charges in Carroll County.
On March 31, Geoffrey Brad Matthews turned himself in for a dozen charges out of Haralson County, including four counts of criminal attempt to commit a felony, four counts of sexual assault by a person of trust, and four counts of grooming a child for a sexual offense or trafficking for sexual servitude.

He worked at Bremen High School at the time of the alleged abuse.
Bremen police said shortly after Matthews’ arrest that there were at least four victims, who were all boys between the ages of 14 and 17.
On Monday, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said Matthews has now been charged with 28 counts of child molestation, two counts of aggravated child molestation, eight counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes, and one count of first-degree cruelty to children, as part of a separate case in the county.

Deputies said they received a referral from the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) the same day Matthews was arrested regarding allegations of inappropriate contact with another juvenile.
Sheriff’s office investigators determined Matthews “engaged in inappropriate relations with a juvenile beginning approximately five years ago,” when the victim was 12 years old.
Deputies said that in mid-March, the juvenile disclosed the abuse to a trusted adult after enduring it for several years.
They said the victim reported the allegations before Bremen police publicly released information about their own investigation of Matthews. The victim does not attend Bremen City Schools and has no connection to the victims involved in the Bremen investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
“The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office commends the victim for their courage in coming forward,” deputies said. “We recognize the difficulty of reporting this type of abuse, particularly for juveniles, and we remain committed to supporting victims throughout the investigative process.”
Deputies ask anyone with information on the case to contact Investigator Kirstie Finley at (770) 830-5916 ext. 2248 or through email at kifinley@carrollsheriffga.gov
Matthews is being held in the Haralson County Jail.
