Waymo services suspended in Atlanta after vehicle gets stuck on flooded street
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Waymo paused its services in Atlanta after one of its autonomous vehicles got stuck during heavy flooding in the city.
According to Waymo, there was no one in the vehicle when it was stuck Wednesday afternoon.
The rideshare company said services are paused to monitor weather conditions and will resume when it is safe to do so. It is unknown when the service through Uber will continue.
“Safety is Waymo’s top priority, both for our riders and everyone we share the road with. During a period of intense rain today in Atlanta, an unoccupied Waymo vehicle encountered a flooded road and stopped. The vehicle has been recovered and removed from the scene,” a Waymo spokesperson said.
