Man kills wife, injures son in Cobb County domestic shooting, police say
Suspect booked into Cobb County Jail on murder, assault charges
COBB COUNTY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A man is accused of killing his wife and hurting his son in a Tuesday night shooting, according to Cobb County police.
Officers were called to a home on Laurel Creek Trail just before 8 p.m. When they arrived, they found an injured 27-year-old man outside and a woman dead from gunfire inside. She was identified on Wednesday as 57-year-old Shital Wrzesien.
The suspect, 56-year-old Kirk B. Wrzesien, was arrested at the scene. He faces one count of murder, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
As of Wednesday afternoon, his son remains hospitalized.
There is no ongoing danger to the public, according to authorities. The investigation remains active.
Joanne Anderson, who has lived on the street for more than 20 years and raised her daughter there, said she was caught off guard by the commotion.
“I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know if someone had a heart attack or what had happened,” Anderson said.
Police tape blocked the street for hours following the shooting.
“We love our neighborhood,” Anderson said. “I’m surprised. It breaks my heart.”
Neighbor Peter Lee said he learned about the shooting through a text message from another neighbor.
“I’ve seen him doing yardwork. Really nice guy. Very social neighbor,” Lee said of the suspect. “It’s a terrible tragedy. It’s too close to home.”
Police said the shooting was an act of domestic violence. Investigators are working to release an official update.
