ACWORTH, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A head-on collision Thursday night in Cobb County left an Acworth woman dead and two others, including a child, hospitalized with serious injuries.

According to investigators, the crash occurred at around 9:18 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Acworth Drive and Cottage Oaks Drive.

Police believe a 2017 Ford F-150, driven by a 47-year-old man, was traveling eastbound on Lake Acworth Drive. At the same time, a 2007 Nissan Armada, driven by 44-year-old Barbara Sotelo of Acworth, was traveling westbound. A girl was also a passenger in the Nissan.

Authorities believe the man may have suffered a medical event, causing him to lose control of the truck and cross into the westbound lane. The front-left of the Ford then collided head-on with the front-left of the Nissan.

Following the impact, the Ford came to a stop between the eastbound and westbound lanes, while the Nissan was redirected to the entrance of Cottage Oaks Drive.

Sotelo was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she was later pronounced deceased. The juvenile passenger in the Nissan and the man were both taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The Cobb County Police Department special operations selective traffic enforcement program is helping Acworth police with the investigation. Authorities urge anyone with information about the crash to call (770) 499-3987.
