7 injured, horse euthanized after SUV hits horse-drawn buggy
COFFEY COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH/Gray News) — Seven people were sent to the hospital, and a horse was euthanized after a crash involving a horse-drawn buggy in Kansas.
The Coffey County Sheriff’s Office said that the crash happened on Saturday evening.
The investigation shows that a man was driving a Jeep SUV when he came up behind a horse-drawn buggy that was heading in the same direction. Inside the buggy were a mother, a father and their four children.
The Jeep driver apparently did not see the buggy and hit it from behind at highway speed.
The mother had traumatic injuries and was taken to the hospital by helicopter. All four children and the father were taken to nearby hospitals. The Jeep driver was also taken to a hospital.
The horse was severely injured and was euthanized by officers at the scene after the family members directed them to do so.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
