2 dead, teen injured in LaGrange apartment shooting, police say
LAGRANGE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Two people are dead and another is injured following a shooting at an apartment complex on Hogansville Road, according to LaGrange police.
Officers were called to Brittany Place Apartments in the 1200 block of Hogansville Road just before 9:30 p.m. Monday night for reports of multiple people shot.
When officers arrived, they found a person dead outside from a gunshot wound. That person was later identified as Drevion Brewer.
Investigators say the shooting happened inside an apartment unit. When officers went inside to check for more victims, they found a second person, identified as Amarious Williams, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Williams died at the hospital.
The two who died were 17 and 18, although police said they’re not sure which is which.
A third victim, also a teenager, was shot once in the leg and is expected to recover, according to police.
Clay Pierce, a neighbor, described being asked for help.
“I said, what the is going on, why are you banging on my door? And somebody said, ‘Can you come help my padre, he’s been shot,’” Pierce said.
Detectives identified a suspect as Joshua Preston. He is in custody, charged with two counts of malice murder. Police say more charges could still be coming for Preston.
LaGrange Police Chief Garrett Fiveash described how the shooting started.
“It was just a small gathering. It started out with four persons inside the apartment. The 911 caller stepped outside the apartment and placed the call to 911 about one of the subjects acting erratically inside the apartment, and then the gunfire started,” Fiveash said.
