Buena Vista Social Club heads to Midtown Atlanta this week
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Tony and Grammy award winning “Buena Vista Social Club” comes to Midtown Atlanta this week.
The show is an ensemble of artists retelling the true story of Cuban music icons returning to the spotlight to make an album of the same name.
Frank Rodríguez is in the ensemble and plays one of the original musicians in the group.
“It’s a job of a lifetime actually to be doing this exact show I always was connected with Cuban musicians from the 80s to be doing this for me is like being home,” Rodríguez said. “The first time I went for rehearsal and heard that musicians and that incredible music, I said to myself: I’m going to be doing this every day for a long time, listening to these incredible musicians, watching the incredible dancers, and this beautiful story, how can you not be happy about something like this.”
He added that people who go see will feel as though they are in Havana.
“The story happens between two eras in the 1950s and 1990s and they’re both very distinct,” Rodríguez said. “It’s a beautiful thing to see and it shows what Cuba was like at that time.”
‘Buena Vista Social Club’ starts its run at the Fox Theatre on Tuesday night, October 27. and goes through Sunday, November 1. Tickets start at $49.
