Police: missing woman found dead in South Fulton home, man kills himself in attic
SOUTH FULTON, Ga. (CBS46) - A woman who was reported missing to the Fairburn Police Department is dead after an incident late Saturday night.
According to the South Fulton Police Department, they responded to a home on Sable Chase Lane near Buffington Road around 11 p.m. regarding a person deceased.
Upon arrival, they discovered 30-year-old Teante Jones had been shot and killed.
Police said the suspected shooter, identified as 43-year-old Kenneth Southern, was barricaded in the attic of the home. South Metro Regional SWAT responded and crisis negotiators contacted Southern. However, officers said he refused to surrender and shot and killed himself.
Jones’ family said Southern was her ex-boyfriend.
The GBI was called in but an investigation was determined not to be needed from their agents due to no use of force by law enforcement.
“We talked every day. I’m going to miss FaceTiming her and I’m going to miss hearing her say, ‘ok mom we’ll talk later,’” said Kimberly Kirk, Jones’ mother.
“She had a fun loving spirit, she liked to have fun, she was adventurous, she liked to try new things,” said Kirk.
She said her daughter worked as a truck driver and loved her dog and her purple Jeep. She was involved in a local Jeep club. Kirk said there is one way to honor Jones’ memory.
“I would like for everyone to love more,” she said. “To me that would be the only way to heal from a tragedy such as this is to show more love as human beings to one another.”
