STONECREST, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Police believe a drug deal is the reason for a deadly overnight shooting.

It happened at a gas station near Snapfinger and Cleveland roads in Stonecrest. DeKalb County police say a 27-year-old tried to drive off during the meeting, but someone outside the car pulled out a gun and shot him in the neck.

“I heard, like, a big thunder,” said Ronecia Jones, who lives and works nearby. “I’m afraid. Yeah, this is too close to home.”

According to police, the man was shot while his foot was on the gas, causing his car to roll across the street.

Officers are looking for the shooter and two other people involved.

Thursday night’s deadly shooting isn’t the first incident of violence at the Chevron gas station. A store clerk was beaten to death with a hammer in mid-January. DeKalb County police quickly arrested a man, charging him with felony murder.

“It’s got to stop,” Jones said. “It’s getting out of hand.”
