ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Police are investigating after seven people were shot during a house party in LaGrange.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Seminary Street on Sunday morning at around 1 a.m. When they arrived, they found multiple people with gunshot wounds.

All seven were taken to a nearby hospital for their injuries. One of the victims, 19-year-old Javeon Dukes, died shortly after.

Atlanta News First spoke with a family member of a few of the victims, who said the group was having a backyard party when shots were fired into the crowd.

“It was at my cousin’s house around the corner, and there were gunshots,” Shant Dukes said. “One of my cousins was pronounced dead, one is in critical condition. A couple of females got shot. I don’t know what happened. I heard it was a lot of gun shots.”

Police have not confirmed what led up to the shooting and whether any arrests have been made.

“Get your kids and sit them down,” Dukes said., urging parents to talk to their children about gun violence and dangerous situations.

The conditions of the other victims remain unknown. LaGrange police said some were treated and released from the hospital. Dukes told Atlanta News First at least one person was believed to be in critical condition.
