‘UNO Social Club’ is coming to Atlanta. Here’s what we know
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - It’s the iconic card game that mends and ends friendships: UNO!
But while you usually play at home, you’ll soon be able to play in public as well during a series of unique in-person events.
After a rumor spread online that UNO would soon be played on Las Vegas’ casino tables, Mattel, the toy giant that owns the card game, took to social media to clarify the situation.
“We hate to be the bearers of bad news but the casino floor isn’t ready for us yet,” the company said from UNO accounts. “We’ve been told that while they do have tight security, it’s not robust enough for UNO at this time.”
But what is in the works is the UNO Social Club, which is coming to bars and other venues in Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago and Austin in August.
The first UNO Social Club is indeed in Las Vegas at the Palms Casino Resort, which triggered the confusion. Promotional photos show guests in cocktail attire enjoying an UNO-themed suite, complete with private bowling lanes.
In a news release, Mattel said the social club runs from July 18-20 and features multiple special UNO game tables managed by game hosts, similar to dealers. Some of the featured decks include UNO Golf, UNO Teams and UNO Show ‘em No Mercy, each of which deviates from the traditional UNO rules.
UNO said attendees can also expect an UNO-themed drink menu, tournament play, photo opportunities and more.
“We created UNO Social Clubs to reimagine what game night can be — bringing people together for real-world fun, connection, and a bit of friendly competition,” Ray Adler, Mattel’s vice president and global head of games, said in a statement. “The UNO Social Club in Las Vegas is just the beginning, and we’re excited to see how these new experiences inspire players to show up, play hard, and make unforgettable memories.”
Right now, it’s unknown when or where UNO Social Clubs will be in Atlanta.
