16-year-old driver arrested after brief chase in stolen car that ends in crash, Morrow police say

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Authorities said a 16-year-old boy driving a stolen car was arrested after leading police on a brief chase that ended in a multi-vehicle crash in Morrow on Friday.

The chase began around noon, when Morrow police officers tried to pull over the vehicle, which was reported stolen in Douglasville, while it was stopped in traffic at the intersection of Southlake Parkway and Jonesboro Road.

Police said the driver took off, ramming two vehicles in front of him and continuing down Jonesboro Road.

Officers then tried a PIT maneuver, but the suspect regained control of the stolen car and kept going.

The suspect reportedly ran the red light on Jonesboro Road at Mt. Zion Road, around 0.2 miles from where the chase began, and collided with two other vehicles. A police car chasing him then struck a third vehicle.

Officers took the suspect into custody. His identity has not been released.

Two people driving vehicles that collided with the stolen car were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), which is investigating the accidents.

The Morrow police officer who crashed their car, the occupants of the vehicle they crashed into, and the driver of another car hit by the suspect also reported minor injuries, GSP said.
