MARTA leaders address safety concerns following deadly stabbing

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — MARTA leadership addressed safety concerns Wednesday following a deadly stabbing incident aboard one of the transit agency’s trains.

“Violence has no place on our transit system,” interim CEO and General Manager Jonathan Hunt said. “The safety of our patrons and employees is our No. 1 priority.”

MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher said Margaret Swan’s death was a senseless crime.

Kreher said MARTA employees go to work everyday with one goal: keeping riders safe.

Hunt said MARTA is committed to enhancing safety efforts, including having more officers at the stations, on train platforms and on patrols.

“We are committed to doing everything we can to protect our customers and our employees and respond quickly when incidents occur,” Hunt said.
