ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will play a free concert at Piedmont Park on Wednesday night.

“Pack a picnic and bring your family and friends to Piedmont Park for a program highlighting our City in the Forest,” the orchestra said.

The concert will feature music meant to reflect the outdoor setting:

  • Beethoven: Symphony No. 6 “Pastorale”
  • Weir: “Forest”
  • Haydn: Symphony No. 82, “The Bear”
  • Mozart: “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” (“A Little Night Music”)
  • Vaughan Williams: Symphony No. 2, “A London Symphony”
  • Vivaldi: “Summer” from “The Four Seasons”
  • Smetana: “Die Moldau”

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. on Oak Hill, in the southwest corner of the park, and is expected to last around 90 minutes. Admission is free and tickets are not required, but attendees are encouraged to arrive early because seating is first come, first served.

There will also be food trucks with beverages “to complete the picnic experience.”

The orchestra says more than 10,000 people turned out for a similar park concert in April.

The concert will go on hours after a shooting at the park. Atlanta police said they detained two suspects after shots were fired at Piedmont Park around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday. No injuries were reported.

Concert organizers and Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said the concert will proceed as planned.
