ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A man arrested in Minnesota in connection with a deadly shooting at a northeast Atlanta townhome community in 2023 is also facing charges in a fatal shooting outside a hookah lounge in downtown Atlanta, police said Tuesday.

On Monday, Atlanta police said the U.S. Marshals Service arrested 20-year-old Kmauri Burnett in Duluth, Minnesota, on Friday in connection with the April 20, 2023, murder of 26-year-old Corey Jackson.

Police said they found Jackson fatally shot in a car at 2030 Main Street, the address for the One Riverside complex.

Burnett is facing multiple charges in the case, including malice murder, felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, entering an auto and tampering with evidence.

He’s the second suspect arrested in the shooting. On June 14, 2023, police said Georgia State Patrol troopers arrested John’Kevious Anderson, 19, on the same charges Burnett is facing.

On Tuesday, police said Burnett is also facing charges in a deadly shooting outside a hookah lounge in downtown Atlanta in 2021.

Officers reportedly found a man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner identified him as 29-year-old DeAndre Houston.

Witnesses told investigators that a vehicle had stopped near the victim and a passenger got out and shot him. The vehicle then drove away.

Burnett is facing charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit a crime in the case.

Houston’s family has been pleading for justice since the shooting. The hookah lounge closed in 2022.

Burnett is awaiting extradition to Atlanta.

Police said shortly after the murder at the One Riverside complex that it was connected to another deadly shooting about a mile away that happened around the same time.

Officers responded that morning to the Flipper Temple Apartments on Abner Terrace and found a man who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital but did not survive.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Jalen Curtis, 19.

Police said they recovered a vehicle at the Flipper Temple Apartments that police believed was tied to both shootings.
