ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Gov. Brian Kemp is extending Georgia’s suspension of the state motor fuel tax through Nov. 30, citing high fuel prices ahead of the Thanksgiving travel period.

The suspension had been set to expire Oct. 29, was extended to Nov. 5 and is now extended through the end of the month.

“With a major holiday coming up and fuel prices still at high levels, I am proud to take this step to keep more money in Georgians’ pockets,” Kemp said in a statement.

Georgia’s excise tax is 33.3 cents per gallon for gasoline and 37.3 cents per gallon for diesel. The suspension, which began Sept. 28, remains paired with suspended weight limits on commercial vehicles and penalties for using off-road dyed diesel on roads.
