Defense defines first half of Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame
Kirby smart said he “regrets” being aggressive at the end of the half
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The first half of the Sugar Bowl was a hard-nosed, defense-first affair compared to many of the other College Football Playoff games this season.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish led the Georgia Bulldogs 13-3 at the end of the first half.
The Bulldogs turned the ball over twice, once in each red zone. The first fumble by running back Trevor Etienne brutally ended a Dawgs drive that was well on its way to touchdown, while the second by quarterback Gunner Stockton set up the only touchdown of the first half by the Fighting Irish.
After the half, Kirby Smart simply said Notre Dame “made a good play” when defensive lineman RJ Oben stripped Stockton. Smart also said he “regrets” being aggressive.
Georgia has trailed in nine games this season; the Dawgs have come back to win in seven of them.
