ATHENS, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A University of Georgia football player is off the hook after facing reckless driving charges.

An Athens-Clarke County judge ruled last week that there isn’t enough evidence to charge Sacovie White, according to court records.

The freshman wide receiver was arrested in May after police said he was driving the wrong way on a one-way road.

The state dismissed the charges on Aug. 7.

White was among several UGA football players arrested for traffic violations. Most recently, running back Trevor Etienne was arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain his lane and “affixing materials that reduce the visibility of windows or windshield” in March, according to jail records. He was released on a $1,883 bond.

The most notable crash related to the team was in January 2023, which killed offensive lineman Devin Willock and UGA staffer Chandler LeCroy just hours after UGA’s national football championship parade.

According to an ongoing lawsuit filed by a former UGA recruiting analyst who was riding in the backseat, LeCroy was street racing against former UGA star defensive lineman Jalen Carter when the accident happened. The suit also partially blames the University of Georgia’s athletics association, as the car was wrongfully rented out from the organization, the plaintiff claims.
